Medical Instruments
Stainless steel sheets are widely used in medical equipment and instruments because of their corrosion resistance, durability, and easy-to-clean surfaces. 304 and 316L stainless steel are commonly selected for different medical and laboratory applications.
Building and Construction
Stainless steel sheet and plate can be used for building facades, roofing components, decorative panels, structural elements, interior decoration, elevators, and architectural applications.
Automotive Industry
Stainless steel materials are used in selected automotive components, exhaust-related parts, decorative components, brackets, and other applications where corrosion resistance and durability are required.
Aerospace Products
Specialized stainless steel grades can be used for aerospace-related components and equipment where material strength, corrosion resistance, and dimensional reliability are important.
Machinery and Industrial Equipment
Stainless steel sheets and plates are suitable for machinery, equipment housings, tanks, processing equipment, industrial components, and fabricated parts.
Food Processing
Stainless steel is widely used in food-processing equipment and related applications because its smooth surfaces are easy to clean and maintain.
Building Materials and Decoration
Surface finishes such as BA, No.4, HL and 8K are suitable for decorative applications, architectural panels, interior decoration, kitchen equipment, and other applications requiring an attractive metallic appearance.
Stainless steel obtains its corrosion resistance primarily from its chromium content. Chromium reacts with oxygen in the surrounding environment to form a thin, passive oxide layer on the surface of the steel.
This passive layer helps protect the underlying metal from corrosion. If the surface is damaged, the chromium-containing material can naturally reform the protective layer in the presence of oxygen.
Different alloying elements provide additional properties. For example:
- Nickel can improve corrosion resistance, toughness, and formability.
- Molybdenum improves resistance to certain corrosive environments, making grades such as 316 and 316L suitable for more demanding applications.
- Carbon affects hardness and strength, while low-carbon grades such as 304L and 316L are often preferred where improved weldability is required.
- Chromium and nickel combinations contribute to the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steels.
The manufacturing process also affects the final characteristics. Cold rolled stainless steel sheet generally provides better dimensional control and surface quality, while hot rolled stainless steel is commonly selected for applications requiring thicker material or different mechanical characteristics.
Choosing the right stainless steel sheet or plate depends mainly on the application and required material properties.
1. Select the Stainless Steel Grade
For general applications, 304 stainless steel is a common choice because of its balance of corrosion resistance, formability, and cost.
For environments requiring higher corrosion resistance, 316 or 316L stainless steel may be more suitable, particularly where chloride or chemical exposure is a concern.
For decorative and general-purpose applications, 430 stainless steel can be considered. For higher-strength or specialized applications, grades such as 410, 440, 2205, 2507 or 904L may be selected depending on the operating environment.
2. Choose the Thickness
Select thickness according to the required strength, forming method, weight, and application conditions.
Our available thickness range is approximately 0.1 -3.0 mm, with customized specifications available according to project requirements.
3. Choose Hot Rolled or Cold Rolled Material
Cold rolled stainless steel sheet is generally preferred when a smoother surface and tighter dimensional control are required.
Hot rolled stainless steel is commonly used where surface requirements and dimensional tolerances are less demanding or where thicker material is required.
4. Select the Surface Finish
Different surface finishes are suitable for different applications:
- 2B: General-purpose smooth finish
- BA: Bright annealed surface with a reflective appearance
- No.1: Common hot rolled finish
- No.4: Brushed finish for architectural and decorative applications
- HL: Hairline finish
- 8K: Highly reflective mirror finish
5. Confirm Size and Quantity
Before placing an order, confirm the required grade, thickness, width, length, surface finish, quantity, standard, and delivery terms. Customized sizes can be discussed according to project requirements.
1. What stainless steel grades do you supply?
We supply a wide range of stainless steel grades, including 201, 304, 304L, 309S, 310S, 316, 316L, 321, 410, 430, 440, 2205, 2507, 2520 and 904L, as well as other grades according to customer requirements.
2. What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?
Both are widely used austenitic stainless steels. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which generally provides better resistance to chloride-containing and certain corrosive environments. 304 stainless steel is commonly used for general-purpose applications and offers a good balance of performance and cost.
